Turmeric Paste to make Golden Milk.

DSC_2498 DSC_2497 DSC_2496 DSC_2495 DSC_2494 DSC_2493 DSC_2488 DSC_2489 DSC_2490 DSC_2491 DSC_2492 DSC_2486

Turmeric Paste

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup  turmeric powder
  • 1 cup water PLUS 1 cup water in reserve, if needed
  • 1/3 cup  Coconut oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper

DSC_2499

Golden Milk Recipe

  • ¼ teaspoon (or more if you can tolerate the taste) of turmeric paste
  • 1 cup almond milk,  hemp milk or coconut milk
  • 1 teaspoon of coconut oil (you can also use sesame oil or sweet almond oil) – get unrefined, cold pressed oil
  • Some honey,  maple syrup or stevia

Put milk and turmeric paste in a pot and cook on medium heat. Heat the mixture until steaming but not boiling (some recipes call for boiling the mixture but prolonged heat can destroy the active ingredient curcumin). Remove from heat. When the drink cools down, add honey and oil(s). The oil supplies you with healthy fats and further increases turmeric absorption. It helps with joint lubrication and promotes cellular function.

The drink has a nice golden color, hence its name.

A very small number of people have reported allergy to turmeric. If you’ve never eaten turmeric, start with a small dose and observe the body’s reaction.

Boulders Organics MISSION

Boulder Organic Foods’ mission is to craft “oh my gosh!” good organic food with uncompromised nutrition using garden-fresh ingredients.

NATURE ROCKS OUR WORLD

We’ve got a major thing for organic eating and we’re not ashamed to show it. This is Boulder Organic!, where we feed our passion for garden-grown ingredients and wholesome fare with temptingly nutritious recipes you’ll be hard-pressed to resist.

ALWAYS ORGANIC
ALWAYS GLUTEN-FREE
ALWAYS NON-GMO
VEGETARIAN OPTIONS
Boulders Organic sent me two coupons to try some soup. So as soon as the coupons arrived I hit my local Target store and chose these two yummy flavors. I found them in the deli refrigerator section.
DSC_2524DSC_2523

In our kitchens, we accept only the best—like whole, organic produce (much of it’s local), savory spices (a pinch of this and a dash of that) and people with a passion for doing things right (everything is personally prepared just like you’d make it yourself). We laugh in the face of artificial ingredients and preservatives because frankly, compromise just isn’t our style. And honestly, who wants to eat something that’s been sitting on a shelf for a year? Not us, that’s for sure.

Come experience what nature intended food to taste like, and hurry up it before it gets cold! Actually…it’ll definitely be cold because Boulder Organic! products are sold in your grocer’s deli refrigerator. Find a store near you and enjoy some today.

ALL SOUPED UP

Picture this: you, a spoon, and a bowl of fresh,
organic soup so good it’s almost too good. Almost.

Well, wouldn’t you know it? That happens to be our specialty. We make all of our fresh soups in small batches from the finest farm-harvested organic and gluten-free ingredients so you can really taste nature’s best in every bite.

Here are a few fun recipes provided by Boulder Organic!

Green Chile Pulled Pork:

Ingredients:

– 2 lbs. pork shoulder roast

– 1 tub Boulder Organic! Green Chile Corn Chowder

Place a 2 lb. pork shoulder roast in a slow cooker, add one tub of the Green Chile Corn Chowder on top (add a dash of salt if desired). Cook on low for 6-8 hours. Pull apart and enjoy!

 Chicken Vegetable Chili Nachos:
Ingredients:

– 1 tub Boulder Organic! Chicken Vegetable Chili

– ½ cup sour cream

– 1 bag tortilla chips

– 1 cup of your favorite salsa

– 1 avocado, diced

– 1 jar pickled jalapeno, drained (if you like the spice!)

– 1-2 cups finely shredded Mexican blend cheese

– ½ cup fresh cilantro

Preheat broiler, place top rack about 6 inches from top. Line baking sheet with aluminum foil. Spread tortilla chips over baking sheet. Heat Chicken Vegetable Chili in saucepan until slightly reduced and thickened. Pour chili over the top of tortilla chips. Add cheese to the top of chili (as much as you like!). Place baking sheet on top rack and broil 3-5 minutes, or until cheese is melted. Top nachos with salsa, sour cream, avocado, jalapeno, and cilantro as desired.

Celebrate National Hot Breakfast Month.

February is National Hot Breakfast Month. Now is a great time to get back into the habit of eating a healthy breakfast each day.

Why is it important to eat in the morning? Not only are you literally breaking the fast from the previous night’s meal, but eating a healthy breakfast can give you energy, wake up your brain, and help you stay on track for healthy eating the rest of the day. Aim for a combination of carbohydrates, protein and fat to keep you full longer and avoid the mid-morning crash.

But who has time for hot food in the morning? You do, and Van’s Natural Foods can help. Here are three healthy (and quick) hot breakfast ideas to get your day started on the right foot.

Waffles with Peanut Butter & Banana

Heat your favorite Van’s waffle. Top with 2 tablespoons natural peanut butter and ½ a sliced banana. No need for syrup, the bananas are sweet enough!

·         Van’s fiber- and whole-grain-rich Gluten Free Ancient Grains Waffles are made from a mix of nutritious whole grains including brown rice, millet, teff, buckwheat, amaranth, sorghum and quinoa. Gluten Free Ancient Grains Waffles have 32 grams of whole grains – and 6 grams of fiber – per serving. Egg- and dairy-free, this waffle is a deliciously nutritious way to start the day.

·         Van’s Power Grains Waffles are the first nationally available high protein waffles. Each serving, made with cracked red wheat and steel-cut oats, offers 10 full grams of protein – more than an egg.  Like all of Van’s products, Power Grains are made with high-quality ingredients and frozen for freshness so they don’t contain preservatives.

Here is what I selected Van’s Whole Grain Waffles, Mini Chocolate Chip Waffles and Cinnamon French Toast Sticks.

I blog about Van’s often. They are amazing to work with and always keep me posted on new items and promotions they have going on.

Previous posts here, here and here.

304

Minis Waffles

Chocolate Chip

Chocolate never seemed so sensible.

Don’t let the amazing taste fool you; Van’s Mini Chocolate Chip waffles are made with the same nutritious ingredients as our other waffles but with just a touch of chocolate for an extra treat! Try them for breakfast or topped with peanut butter for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up snack.

303

Gluten Free Waffles

Ancient Grains Original

Baked with whole ancient grains – without gluten, dairy, egg or soy.

Packed with 23g nutrient-dense whole grains and 6g fiber, these gluten-free ancient grains waffles might just be our best creation yet!

302

and My All Time Favorite Van’s Item…

Gluten Free French Toast Sticks

Cinnamon

Cinnamon French Toast Sticks – hold the gluten, dairy & egg!

Start your day with gluten-free whole grain goodness and a dash of delicious cinnamon. Van’s Gluten Free Cinnamon French Toast Sticks are a tasty morning meal or afternoon treat.

Yummy.

Made some amazingly fun Charcuterie Boards for Holiday Parties.

20151226_190629

Pronounced shahr-kyut-uh-ree it is a French word that comes from chair “flesh” and cuit “cooked.” It refers to cooked, cured or smoked meats such as bacon, ham, sausage, terrines, rillettes, galantines, pâtés and dry-cured sausage. Charcuterie has been considered a French culinary art at least since the 15th century.
another definition described it as:

Charcuterie is the French word for prepared meat products such as pate, rillette, and sausage, as well as the butcher shop that sells them. Coming from chair (“flesh”) and cuit (“cooked”), charcuterie was originally prepared as a way to preserve meat before the invention of refrigerators.

Lately mine has been Blue. Blue Apron came into my life via Courtney at Sweet Tooth Sweet Life. She posted a review of the service and offered 50 readers 2 free meals with Blue Apron, so I jumped on it and received my two free meals and have been hooked ever since.

So here is the deal on Blue Apron meal plan.

How does Blue Apron work?

Blue Apron delivers all the fresh ingredients you need to make delicious meals in exactly the right proportions.

We offer two plans, with no commitment and no fees, so you can prepare delicious, inventive meals at home. We do the menu planning and shopping, and deliver recipes right to your door with all the fresh, perfectly portioned ingredients you need to cook them. All you have to do is cook and enjoy! We have no membership fee, and no minimum commitment. You can skip any week’s delivery in advance or cancel at any time.

With our 2-Person Plan, you will receive one delivery a week, with three delicious recipes and the corresponding ingredients pre-portioned for two. We customize your menu based on your dietary preferences (which you can change or update at any time).

Our new Family Plan is perfect for feeding a family of (4) four. Our culinary team creates four new Family Plan recipes each week designed to appeal to both parents’ and kids’ palates. You can choose to receive all four recipes (in two separate deliveries that you can schedule for when it’s most convenient for you), or you can choose to receive just two recipes per week that are customized based on your dietary preferences,.

We’ve designed our service to teach you how to cook new recipes, expose you to seasonal, farm-fresh produce and reduce unnecessary food waste. By letting us shop for you, we can bring you fresher and higher-quality food than you can get on your own in the supermarket, all at a better price.

How does the 2-Person Plan work?

When you sign up for our 2-Person Plan, you will receive one delivery a week, with three seasonal recipes and the all the ingredients you need to make them, pre-portioned for two. Our culinary team creates six new recipes weekly for this plan, and you receive a menu of three of the six recipes based on your dietary preferences.

How do I skip a week or more of delivery?

If you are going on vacation or don’t want a delivery, you can skip that week before your weekly delivery cutoff.

To do this, visit “Delivery Schedule” under “My Account“. Your future delivery dates will be listed and you can skip a week by clicking on that delivery date and following the instructions to skip.

When will my delivery arrive?

Depending on your location, we offer daytime and/or evening deliveries.

When you sign up and enter your zip code, you’ll see which delivery windows are available in your area.

When your delivery is on its way to your kitchen, we’ll send you an email with the tracking information for your order.

You can check to see your delivery window by logging into “My Account” and clicking on your “Account Info” then looking under “My Plan.”

You can also check your tracking information in the “We’re on our way!” e-mail we send the day of your delivery to help you monitor your order’s progress.

So with that being explained let me show you: How it works and a few meals I have made.

First you get your box!

014

Also had another Seven meals that I did not photograph because we ate them too fast…Sorry, Not Sorry.

So here are my thoughts on this meal service as it applies to me and my husband. We love it. We don’t get it every week because I do have a freezer full of venison and I love to make chili, Stews and Sauces with venison, but I do like to receive Blue Apron 2-3 times per month. For us it is worth the cost because we are not wasting any food and getting portion sizes we need, and the most importantly the ingredients are fresh, healthy and I do not have to shop for them. I love the variety of meals and feel like I am gaining so many cooking tips, tricks and experience in the kitchen.

After putting them together, I look at my creations and think; WOW, I made that. I Rule this Kitchen.

So those are my thoughts on Blue Apron. I was in no way compensated for this post other that the first two free meals when I first signed up. I just Love this Service.

I love new Healthy Foodie Items. I search them out, and I always score big at Trader Joe’s.

223I love coconut, but this bag of crunchy coconut takes it to a new level. It is sweet and so satisfying. It is almost impossible to share this snack.

Goat Cheese Medallions! Wow perfect for my mid day get me to lunch snack. Yep, I eat it right out of the package I love goat cheese so much.

239

My new favorite go to freezer snack/small meal. SO good but definitely not enough to make a full meal. Can you see my slight obsession for cheese!

Dip or Dunk? Trick question: It’s both.

Stocked up on some new Teavana Tea.

There is a tea infuser attached to the insulated tumbler, it just twists off and your on you way with a Tea break when ever you need it.

261

I am beyond in love with his tumbler. So cute and I love the orange color, plus its insulated which is perfect for afternoon tea at work. This mug keeps it warm for 6 hours.

My Best Friend Jody sent me these Rachael Ray cook wear pieces for my birthday this past February.

254

Ordered this incredible snack Greenola. Wow. This stuff is amazing, and it has my favorite ingredient Kale! I love Kale.

233

I found this on Open Sky and I am so glad I did. It has become my favorite go to snack. It is sold in 5 ounce packages and sold as a 3 pack so you have plenty on hand.

230

I am also super excited about my Tieks. I had a $50.00 coupon from a KLUTCHclub box I received last May. I have been waiting for a sale to combine with my coupon ever since, and I finally found a pair for the right price.

Finally going to try the Apple Cider Vinegar morning cocktail. I am a regular reader of Laura from Sprint2thetable and she starts her day with a morning cocktail and I really think I can benefit from starting this healthy routine.
