Happy Fall. So here in Michigan it is getting cold. We have also been getting crazy high winds lately, which just make it feel that much colder. So here are some things that have been keeping me occupied lately.

I made a succulent terrarium. My inspiration came from my favorite Michigan YouTuber: How Jen Does It.  She featured this on one of her house tours and a tutorial. I was obsessed, and had to create my own.

I also made a few other pieces for other rooms in my house to enjoy over the cold winter months ahead.

Cannot wait to try this out. Posts to follow! Here are some details on what this is. Also wanted to mention that Trader Joe’s sells this for $15.99. All other prices I have seen for this have been upwards of $50.00. So if interested go to Trader Joe’s.

Had this canvas photo made. It was a coupon code from my Fab Fit Fun Box from Picture it on Canvas. It was a $75.00 value coupon code to purchase anything on the site. I was beyond excited to order this. This is my all time favorite picture of me and my husband. Were in Bora Bora celebrating our 20th. Wedding Anniversary. Bora Bora Post Here.

My blog is always a mix of things. Food, Health, Reviews and Travel. I try to keep it a balanced mix and today’s post is a bit of all the above.

I was sent the following BeetsBlue to review. I never thought I would want to use a Heart Rate Monitor, so that is exactly why I wanted to try it. I am not a runner or by any stretch of the imagination athletic, but I do my own versions of workouts that fit my lifestyle and age. I am health conscious and am very active and I live by getting in all my 10,000 steps per day, and I love to walk. I hiking/walking at a local farm as well as using my indoor treadmill are my main ways to stay heart healthy.

BeetsBLU

Beets BLU Key Finder / Items Finder Bluetooth 4.0 Smart Small Wireless PagerTag Keychain item with Audio Alarm. Device Syncs with Smartphone iPhone (4S and later), iPad (mini, 3, 4, Air) and Samsung Galaxy (S4, S5, S6)

Our lost thing reminder is a black electronic beeper which has loud sound alarm and red LED light in case of link loss
  • Our portable lost key detector also has remote commands accessible on the key fob button press
  • Geo regions actions (iOS only). You can use our key locator system through special app for iOS and Android. Gadget pairs with Apple iPhone (4S, 5, 5S, 5C, 6, 6 plus), iPad (mini, 3, 4, Air) and Samsung Galaxy (S4, S5, S6, S6 Edge)
  • Lost location tracking on smart phone. Our device helps to find lost keys. The item can be also used for such objects as purse (wallet), pet, bag and anything you tend to lose. Uses low power transmitter
  • Proximity detection with automatic sound alert. Also works as RF remote control. Our tracker is a great gadget for men and women

How can I use it?

No matter how brilliant your memory is, there are always moments when you are in a rush and can’t find your belongings, like your phone or keys, or when you need to track your luggage at the airport, or you have left your bag behind.*
PagerTag is extremely helpful
in the following circumstances:
  • If you can’t find your keys in a rush or you can’t find them in your bag
  • If you left your wallet or purse behind or misplaced it
  • If you attach PagerTag to your travel bag, your phone will notify you when it is nearby at the baggage claim area
  • If your tagged pet is outside of a set range
  • If your item has been stolen or moved by someone else to an area you’re not aware of (accidents happen)

Love the Alarm on this PagerTag, while testing it I went out of range and the alarm really was loud enough to locate and or alert you that your item is not where you left it.

Also, a few things I plan to use for is traveling and also on my little Ginger girl. When we travel or camp she is a very curious little girl and I can see her running off if she was to ever squirm out of her collar. (this happened once while camping when she got scared of some fireworks)

Adorable, but scared and sometimes curious. Especially when fireworks season is upon us.

20151105_205220

Here I am able to keep track of my work bag which hold my small purse and my keys. I use a carabiner clips so I can keep my keys and both my bags together and track all (3) three items!

DSC_2393

It was so easy to connect to Blue Tooth with my phone and Install the app at the Play Store. I was up and running in only a few minutes and then had fun learning and playing with all the settings and the alarms.

Beets Blu Wireless Bluetooth Smart 4.0 Heart Rate Monitor is Compatible with Smartphones Apple (4S, 5, 5S, 5C, 6, 6 plus), Samsung Galaxy (S4, S5) and Nexus (4, 5, 7). With Soft Chest Strap

Heart rate sensor with belt around chest delivers the most accurate heart rate readout thanks to ECG-based technology
  • Smoothly sync with iOS phones (iPhone 5, 4S) and selected Android devices* No dongle required
  • System consumes low energy therefore a small firmware battery is enough for more than a year
  • Our cheap recorder works with all popular apps like Endomondo, Runkeeper, Map My Run, etc
  • Wearable tracker approaches to running, fitness, crossfit, spinning, workout, exercise and other athletic sport

Why do I need to monitor my heart rate?

Control of your heart rate is very important for your training, as it helps you to achieve your desired results. Depending on the goal of your workout, you can:

  • Strengthen your cardiovascular system
  • Increase your stamina
  • Burn fat
  • Avoid your heart beating too fast

This is especially important for those over 50 years of age or for those recuperating.
The results of your training depend on your heart rate zone. This has a lower and upper limit. If your heart rate is in the target zone, you will achieve the expected results from your training.

I will keep you posted on the BeetsBlu product updates as I use them more in my daily life. Thank you for sending me them to review, I really enjoyed and liked using these easy and functional gadgets. I really loved the PagerTag and will be getting a second one for my husband. I think he can really benefit from having one himself. I am so excited and really love and will recommend the PagerTag to friends and family. I really love the value of this for people who travel, or just might need help locating items, it is so versatile.

Here’s a few other highlights of items I have been loving and using.

Been hooked on Subscription beauty boxes lately. I work 10 to 11 hour days most days of the week with weekends off so I find I love getting little boxes of fun after a really long day. I’m usually gone 12-13 hours each day with my commute to work. SO this is my little perk me up pamper gifts I love to send to myself. Here is a Birch Box I purchased featuring another YouTuber I love Tati from Glam Life Guru.

She eats well, enjoys wine with dinner and walks daily. I love everything about her. She is such an inspiration to me. Posted my travel bag in this post.

So here in Michigan we are used to snow days, hazard weather days, and power outages. We get high winds, freezing rain, below zero temperatures and sometimes we get 12″ of snow dumped on us overnight. Like most people who live in states with winter weather conditions we are usually always ready for whatever mother nature sends our way. Recently we had two back to back storms both resulting in power outage both lasting over 4 days. It is what it is. I plan for such events by having what I may need. Flash lights, batteries, fuel, propane, food, water and other such necessities.  We also have a generator. It  does not run the entire house but it give us what we need.

DSC_1563

So on our latest power outage the temperature in the house dropped down to 32 degrees. But that was warm compared to the 13 below zero temperatures and high winds outside. We keep it simple when the power goes out. We run a small generator for a lamp, our TV and a small room heater, we also are able to charge our cell phones. We have a propane heat buddy that heats our bedroom. I have a Nuwave heat top that I use to heat cans of soup and easy heat up can meals, I saw it on an infomercial and then later found it at Kohl’s. It worked out so well. It does not use a lot of energy so it safely runs off my generator. I also really rely on hearty protein meal replacement bars and healthy snacks.

DSC_1561

Having a generator is not a cure-all for a power outage, unless you have an entire house hook-up. We have a portable one so it cannot run the entire home. We also have a well for our water so to run our pump and the well we have dedicate the entire generator to the water when we need it. We take showers and wash dishes and fill up water bottles and get done what we need and then reconnect back to our lamp, tv and heater. Our propane heat buddy is a life saver, it really kicks off heat and keeps us warm when the generator is hooked up to the well and pump.

DSC_1554

When we go to bed we shut off the generator to conserve the fuel and we go dark. We have our routine down quite well. So when it comes down to it my main concern is always food and water. I always have lots of options on hand but I am always looking for easy meals and foods that keep us going.

Some new health snacks recently arrived at my door. Thanks to my wonderful friends over at Van’s Natural Foods.

Van’s History

You may not know it, but Van’s has been cooking up tasty, good-for-you waffles for almost a half century. It all started back in the 1970s at the original Van’s restaurant. It was there, inspired by our California beachside roots, that we first dished up whole grain and gluten-free hot ’n toasty waffles. By the late 1980s, we decided it was time to bring our tasty waffles to a whole new group of customers – right in their local grocery stores.

That same passion for seriously healthy, seriously tasty foods lives on at Van’s today. We value artisanal quality and we cook our products in small, minimally processed batches with always-fresh ingredients. And since we want everyone to be able to enjoy our waffles, we offer gluten-free waffles along with organic, mini and our signature 8 Whole Grain varieties.

The original Van’s restaurant may no longer be dishing out waffles on the beach, but we still pack the same sunny Southern California spirit into every product we make. Our only hope is that you’ll enjoy Van’s foods as much as we enjoy creating them.

First off, last week was my 1 year blogging anniversary, and WordPress sent me this lovely message.
Happy Anniversary!

You registered on WordPress.com 1 years ago!

Thanks for flying with us. Keep up the good blogging!

So now on to the Birthday Dinner.

I took my husband out to Celebrate his 47th Birthday last week! I still cannot believe that we are adults, let alone middle-aged. We started dating when I was 23 and he was 26. We dated for 2 years and then we were engaged for 1 year, and married going on 18 years. So here we are now 21 years later and we both still feel as young as we were when we met, but clearly were not. I mean how did this happen, were a middle-aged couple.  We laugh and laugh about that. Well anyway, here’s our celebration dinner. He still makes my heart go Pitter Patter.

034

So as a middle-aged couple we ordered a libation to get the Birthday Celebration going. Cranberry Cosmo for me and a Two Hearted Ale for Birthday Boy Jeff.

033

We love this beer, plus its Brewed in Michigan!

We started with the Calamari. This dish is so good its;

    • Steak cut strips flash fried & finished with a

Lemon Caper Beurre Blanc sauce.

035

Jeff ordered the Pile of Perch.

036

I had the White Fish with Shrimp.

037

We both loved our meals, but we didn’t stop there we then each ordered dessert. I ordered the Sanders Hot Fudge and Ice Cream Creme Puff .

039

Jeff ordered the Caramel Pecan Bread Pudding. Delicious meal with a perfect ending for the Best man I know. My Jeffrey.

038

Love a birthday dinner! On his actual birthday, I surprised him with a Chocolate Bumpy Cake with White Chocolate Shavings…My word that cake was good.

001

These next pictures have nothing to do with Jeff’s Birthday Dinner, it just made me laugh. Here’s my Ginger Girl on her 1st. car trip. She’s a very cautious driver. She ALWAYS looks both ways. Here she is Checking to her Left.  – Then –

017

Checking to the Right.

Special Deliveries…Love them, Good eats…Love them. Especially if they are a special delivery with good eats in them! Also love having a good time. Here are a few of all the above.

I recently subscribed to a Vegan Monthly Delivery Box called Conscious Box. Here’s their Mission.

The Mission of Conscious Box

Conscious Box is dedicated to introducing you to the most ethical, sustainable, and honest businesses that create the purest products available. We scour the marketplace to find those that stand above the rest. Discovery defines the Conscious Box experience.

I was so excited when the box arrived I could not wait to share it with you. Look at all these goodies…While I am not Vegan, or even vegetarian, I am currently working on how I live my life and choices I make. I realize that you have to start somewhere.

This box was loaded with great items. Teas, coffee, chocolate, snacks, and hb&a items. It was nicely packaged and the quality and quantity was amazing.

Sharing time… I made a really great crab sandwich the other day. Delicious.

Seriously, it was delicious. I added a side of roasted broccoli, but this sandwich could have stood alone on the plate.

One of my favorite lunches lately has been a ham and egg salad. I have been finding fresh spinach and sprouts at the farmers market along with some cucumbers and avocados and just mixing it all together and enjoying.

Recently I won a giveaway on Erin Berries Blog for Rebootizer. I have started it and cannot wait to do a quick review on it once I have completed the detox plan.

My amazing friends at Chobani sent me a 6 pack of their 16 ounce blended flavors. Okay here’s where the gushing comes in. I love this company, they are amazing friends to us bloggers, and on top of that their products are GREAT. I absolutely am in love with the Vanilla Chocolate Chunk.

I did share approximately 2 teaspoons with my husband, I felt like in order to do an honest review I had to eat the rest! Then I started in on the Mango. I really love the blended flavors. I have always been a huge fan of Chobani’s fruit on the bottom Pineapple flavor, but now feel like I should alternate my Chobani love to the blended yogurt as well. I am planning a few post with some of the ways I enjoyed the Chobani yogurt other than straight out of the container. What can I say, I  sometimes can’t help myself. Once it hits your lipsit’s so good! (Old School Movie Reference). Sorry.

I have been on a roll with blog giveaways lately and hit it BIG with the next two prizes. First up I won a $50.00 gift card to Lululemon. One of my favorite bloggers Calee from Life + Running was hosting this giveaway, and I could not have been happier when she notified my that I had won. I am so looking forward to spending that gift card. When Lululemon sent me the gift card they also sent me a reusable bag that I think I will use as my lunch bag and a change purse. Loving them lots right now.

My next big prize was from Rachael at Passing Daisies. I have been reading Rachael’s blog for a long time and love her dedication to honest blogging.  She really has well written posts with some great recipes. So back to the prize, I won these Zaggora HotPants. I was really pumped about these HotPants and put them to the test and loved them. Here’s some information on them taken directly from their webpage.

HotPants increase energy expenditure during exercise by 6% versus the control garment. HotPants increase energy expenditure in the hour after exercise by 26%*.

In 30 minutes of exercise, weight loss is around 4x greater in HotPants than in a standard garment. On average, subjects lost 1.13% of body mass in HotPants compared to 0.27% in the control garment.

HotPants increase the core body temperature by an average of 18% more than the control garment, which leads to an increase in metabolism.

I ordered the Orange, because it’s so HOT right now. Nah, I just love Orange. How cute are they? I can tell you this from just wearing them once, I sure did sweat more doing the same workout I normally do. So I will have to keep you posted on them. They have a Take the Challenge for new users of the HotPants. So me loving a challenge is all in. What they expect is just this: Wear the pants a few times a week during exercise and share your results! Easy. Like I said I am all in. So I will share my experience here with you once I have completed said challenge. Orange HotPants are so hot right now! Just saying.

Now on to a few of the good times I was talking about earlier. Hit a Tigers game with my husband over the Labor Day week-end. Even though we lost and it was 86 degrees, we still had a great time. I love going Downtown Detroit, the city is always so much fun. We had a few beers, had some hot dogs and some frozen lemon aid. It was a fun afternoon ball game.

Photo: Hot day at comerica

We also spent time with our friends having a few beers at a backyard birthday party. I do love beer. Another reason I am happy I won the Rebootizer, I could use a detox plan after indulging on so many festive foods and drinks this summer. It really has been the summer of fun.

I threw in this picture. I love this picture. It was taken on a houseboat trip I took in August. There was 30 people on this trip and all us girls got together and all piled on a floating island with our drinks and took tons of pictures, this picture happens to be my favorite. So much fun. Girl Power.

I included this picture because it’s pretty and I love water lilies.

Killian and Stuart say Hi! See my Orange stripped sweater with the Orange tissue tee, told ya I am loving Orange right now.

How cute are my fur babies? They look freaked out in this picture, but man I just love their little faces. They make my heart go Pitter Patter.

There’s just something about the weekend, I love the time I get to relax and make breakfast and just sit and talk with my husband. Unlike the typical breakfast during the week, where I eat at my desk at work. I was a bit undecided on what I wanted for breakfast, I thought I wanted Van’s French Toast Sticks while my husband wanted eggs. So I grabbed everything to make both and realized that I wanted eggs also. So back in the freezer went the French Toast Sticks.

It was a good call, I had 2 eggs scrambled with imitation crab meat and shredded cheese and just a splash of milk. My husband had 3 eggs with ham and shredded cheese and a splash of milk.

Multi-tasking is a must when you want to eat different ingredients and want to eat at the same time!

Now that I had my eggs, I can’t seem to get the French Toast Sticks off my mind. I just might need to think about having them as a snack later.

That’s how you Kick it Saturday Style. Eggs two ways or His and hers if you like.

Now that I am full and fueled I plan on getting to the planning of my day. Today is Cardio of choice with my Boot Camp Program, so I have a treadmill power walk planned.

BEST BODY BOOTCAMP

Tomorrow I get my first Rest Day from Boot Camp, I am very proud that I have followed the program and stayed on point. During the program we have in addition to the Workouts two goals that we give ourselves, I only had one day that I did not meet my goal.  I knew that the goal of getting myself to bed by 11 pm was going to be hard, but I really want to start forming better sleeping patterns.

Last night Jeff and I went to a Red Wings Game, our 3rd. this season! We had a blast, but I was so worried we would get home late and I would miss my Bedtime Goal, but I made it home and into bed by 10:56 pm.

And the Red Wings won 4-3! The last game we attended was in February where the Red Wings made sports history by winning 23 Home Games during a season, now that was a happy crowd.

It was a great game, I love watching live sporting events, the crowd always pumps me up. Plus I really love hockey, growing up my brothers played hockey and my father was a hockey coach, my mom volunteered at the concession stand, we were always at the Ice Arena as a family, we called ourselves  “Rink Ratt’s.” My contribution was to organize cheering sections. I really took it serious, I made up dances, I had moves, those are some of my favorite memories from growing up.

Also I wanted to pass on that the Blend Retreat still has tickets available. It is open to bloggers and readers. This is the first annual BLEND Retreat and it is being held May 4th-6th in Boulder, Colorado at the historic Chautauqua Park.

I’m attending Blend Retreat 2012.

What do you think, wouldn’t you love to join us. The price is right and who doesn’t enjoy fellowship. I hope to see you there.

Question of the Day: What is your favorite part of the weekend?

Check ya Later.
